MANUAL SEARCH IN LITERATURE

Manual Search in Literature

If you are writing the literature review section of a dissertation of research paper you will search for literature related to your research problem and questions. This is the first step in understanding the state of knowledge on your topic before you begin your own research.

Once you have finished your preliminary research you must organize the information and your thoughts. To make it easy on yourself use the index card or note card system. This system is used to keep your ideas in an order and to remember where you found them. There are four items should must include in a note card.

Card Topic

Information’s are categories by card topics. Each topic you could have from different sources. The name of the topics is the main ideas of the card. For the research paper, we also divided your cards by color like one color for history and one for effects. Topics are smaller divisions within colors. You make up the name of the topics as the main idea of the card. Make the titles after you make all your note cards. You should have about 5-6 topics for a five page paper. That means (generally) about two cards for each topic. It may seem tedious to divide note cards into topics but it serves two purposes.one is  It keeps you focused in your research and  the other is each card topic will become a body paragraph in your paper.

Source Number

Source number refers to the book, magazine, web site, etc., in which you found the information. Using the numbers from your working bibliography, specify which source provided the information on the card.

Main Information

Use three methods of taking notes (information) from your sources they are,

Paraphrasing

Paraphrasing means to put in your own words to make sure for shorten the information and make it clearer.

Summarizing

Summarizing is like paraphrasing, it is also just make shorter the content. Try paraphrasing the lead sentence of the paragraph then simply list the ideas of the paragraph.

Quoting

Direct quoting is used for Conciseness; it is writing in memorable language and should be accurate or authorized. If you are consistent at this stage it will helps to you will save time when it is time to write the paper, you will be certain not to accidentally plagiarize someone else's work, and also you will choose the topics for each note card later.

 Page Number

You will need page numbers on your note cards for citations throughout your research paper. Use them even when you are not quoting directly.

The index card system or the note card system simplifies the preparation of research paper.

:4. To observe and tabulate different types of magnets.
6. LEARNING OUTCOMES
: 1. The learners can explain the fact that like poles repel and unlike
                                     Poles attract each other.
                                  2. Learner can explain directional property of a magnet and can apply
                                     The knowledge in different situations.
                                  3. Learning through discussions and activities helps the learner to
Develop a mentality to accept others viewpoints.
7. LEARNING AIDS
                                 1. Video clips
                                 2. Pictures of different magnets and magnet using substances
                                 3. Bar magnets for explaining the properties of magnets
                                 4.chart containing properties of magnets.
8 .PREREQUISITES

2 .Science diary containing observation and discussion reports
10. CLASSROOM TRANSACTION
                            Activity/ Process
Response / Evaluation
Sensitization
Teacher enters into the class with a smile and wish the students. Then teacher checks their previous knowledge and plays a video clip of magnetic train in class and introduce the topic.
Grouping strategy
Teacher divides whole class into 6 groups for discussions and activities.
Learning activity 1
Teacher exhibits an image and asks students to observe it and list out the uses of magnets.
Points to be found out
In magnetic compass, toy car, refrigerator door, magnetic tapes, speakers, magnetic trains…
Learning activity 2
Teacher exhibits pictures of different types of magnets and asks students to observe it and name the magnets on the basis of their shapes.
Points to be found out
Magnets are classified as bar magnet, magnetic needle, U magnet, ring magnet, disc magnet … on the basis of their shape

Learning activity 3
https://youtu.be/qPJ2cSHEcBI
Teacher exhibits a video of an experiment and ask students to done the same experiment in groups using a bar magnet. Then asks them to record their findings in science diary.
Consolidation of ideas
If a magnet is arranged in such a way that it can move freely it will align itself in north south direction of the earth. That is magnets possess directional property.  The end pointing towards north is north pole (N) and the other end is south pole (S).

Learning activity 4:
Teacher exhibits a video of an experiment and explained the procedure. Then ask students to done the same experiment and write down the observations in science diary.
Consolidation of ideas
As far as magnets are concerned, like poles repel and unlike poles attracts each other.
Teacher exhibits a chart showing properties of magnets.
11. FOLLOWUP ACTIVITY
Written assignment
Prepare an album by collecting pictures of materials in which magnets are used.
